The Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health Act (HITECH) is included in ARRA. This sets out the criteria for hospitals to receive incentive payments from the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) to advance the use of health information technology. A qualifying hospital is an eligible hospital that successfully demonstrates meaningful use of certified EHR technology for a specified reporting period during a payment year.
